Since securing the drum throne at 14 for the Two Trees Dectette Runners up in the national festival of jazz for youth 1974. Steve Tansley has (exhaustively) sought a career in music. His dad's advice was "Get a proper career". He didn't listen.

In 1976 he joined his first gigging band "The Frantic Elevators" with local singer Mick Hucknall. After leaving The Frantic "Elevators" in 1978 Steve went on to join other local rock outfits: Joe Stalin's Red Star Radio Band, Tora Tora then in 1982 Manchester based rock band Fire-clown until 1984.

During 1986 Steve joined up with Phil Platt's "Ride Band" and the incestuous and ongoing nature of the Manchester music scene becomes apparent here as Phil is also founder member of "Still Stones" so this was something of a re-union after 26 years!!! Steve stayed gigging and recording with "The Ride Band" until 1992.

After the demise of "The Ride" Steve and other local musicians formed "The Urge" a writing and recording outfit of which he was a key member un till 2000. During this period from 1994 onwards Steve also teamed up with"The Bill Baileys" (later The Tony Dowler Band with Dave Smiley on bass) and later still "Tony Dowler's Hell Hounds" who he still tours with today mainly around Holland, Ireland, Belgium, Germany & Norway.

Steve also played for "Sinnerboy" an internationally gigging Rory Gallagher tribute band from 2006 to 2011 and from 2014 "The Fortunate Sons" incestuously enough Steve worked in two of the three latter bands with bass player Dave Smiley whom ironically was bass player in an early 80's line up of "The Ride Band" (talk about a full circle!!!).

In Steve's own words: "If success is measured in monitory terms then let's just say there's no mansion, private jet or yacht, but if success is measured in how many places I've been, how much fun I have and how many great friends I've met throughout the years, then I am rich beyond my wildest dreams.
